LOCAL NEWS

We are pained to learn that our former neighbor, Mrs. James II. ALEXANDER, lies critically ill at her daughters. Mrs. HIGGINBOTHAM'S, near Liberty Hill. Mrs. A. is the mother of Mr. John D. ALEXANDER of this place. She is a ripe shock of corn, ready when the Master calls.

Robert BARROW, little son of A. F. BARROW, formerly of our town, died in Abingdon last week.

Sorrow comes to our household as well as to many more in Tazewell, at the death of Mrs. Mary BOWEN of Wytheville. We treasure, as a sweet memory, our sojourns at her former home. She rests from her labors.

Died at his home in Word's Cove, this county, yesterday morning, Mr. James LESTER, who was more than seventy years of age. Mr. LESTER was one of our most upright, prosperous citizens - honorable in all the relations of life.
