life of the late bachelor.
Mr. Cecil PEERY will be a student at Roanoke College the coming
term.
Mr. Ed. BELEW has returned from Cedar Bluff. Mr. WHITE
remains for a time.
There is not a vacant house, shop or shanty in the town, and while
building still goes on, the demand is not met.
Rev. M. W. DOGGETT will return from Liberty Hill Sunday
afternoon, and will supply his pulpit here in Jeffersonville at night.
Mr. B. W. STRAS has bought land from Mr. George BUSTON,
north of Main street, and will build a residence for himself. In this
building another "ornament to the town" may be looked for.
Mr. R. A. SAUNDERS arrived last night and is getting his business
in shape for a big opening. His goods will arrive daily from Graham. Mr.
T.A. LYNCH will be found at the new store.
Last night Pocahontas officers brought to town a negro who had carved up
a man. While waking the porter at the hotel the officers left the
prisoner on the outside tied with ropes. He used a secreted razor to cut
the cords and silently stole away.
