Miss Carrie SPOTTS came up last week from Mouth of Indian where she has charge of the music department in the High School.

Mr. H. M. SMYTHE, of the Pocahontas Headlight will erect a neat house upon his lot at the Tazewell depot, recently purchased.

Miss Stella STRAS, who had gone to Richland in company with her cousin, Miss Eva SPOTTS, returned home in time for the holidays.

Deputy Sheriff John PEERY left for Richmond Tuesday to deliver to the penitentiary two prisoners convicted at the last term of the county court. The negro, Geo. SMITH, who killed FERRELL at Pocahontas, got nine years as a sentence.

Mr. Wm. S. BROWN, of this place, was married to Miss Maggie BATEMAN, of Wythe County, on the 25th of December.

Mrs. Rebecca PEERY, relict of the late Harvey Peery, Esq. died yesterday at an advanced age.
