Judge S.C. GRAHAM returned last week from a business trip to Florence, Alabama. Rev. Mr. FUNSTEN, of Richmond, preached Tuesday evening in the Episcopal church.

Mr. Joseph I. DORAN, solicitor for Norfolk and Western RR will return from Europe in a few days.

Messrs. W.T. WOOD and A.L. BOONE move this week with their families to Graham and Bluefield.

The illness of Mrs. H.B. HARMAN took an alarming turn on Saturday last but at this writing she is much better.

Mr. A.J. MAY Jr. returned Sunday, from Baltimore, whither he had taken his daughter, Jean to consult a physician.

Mr. A.B. BUCHANAN has returned from the eastern cities after buying new stock of goods for A.B. BUCHANAN & Co.  Mrs. Emile LOW, of Cedar Bluff, spent a few days of the week in town.

Mr. James P. LEWIS, brother of our townsman, John H. LEWIS, died at his home in Bristol on the morning of the 4th, aged about 40 years. Deceased had been all extensive contractor and builder, and had amassed quite a large sum of money. He leaves a wife but no children.

General MAHONE is preparing to build a town at the mouth of Cove Creek, in Tazewell Co, Va. A branch road will be built from Tazewell C.H. to the point mentioned, and charcoal furnaces erected. There are immense deposits of iron and immense boundaries of timber.

The farm of the late George W. SPOTTS, except the dwelling and twenty five acres about it, was sold Tuesday, to Messrs. J.S. and A.P. GILLESPIE for $20,000. The farm, which is a fine one, lies partly within the corporation, and it is understood that each of the GILLESPIE'S will build a residence thereon and move to town.
