Misses Mary and Cleo THOMPSON were home from
college for the holidays.
Miss Mamie STOCKTON, of Radford, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. James
O'KEEFFE.
Messrs. John YOUNG and Newt CROCKETT were up from
McDowell for their Christmas.
Mr. John GRAHAM and his wife, formerly Miss Pauline WITTEN,
will reside in Pocahontas, where Mr. GRAHAM is in business.
The residence of the late A.H. MARRS was burned to the ground
Tuesday morning, the day after his burial. The fire started while the
family was at breakfast and only some of the household goods were saved
and valuable papers.
Mr. Lewis BRITTAIN came home Saturday from Hampden Sydney
College to spend the holidays with the "old folks" at home. He
is doing well at school, but does not get to hunt as much as he would
like.
Mrs. Margaret LEECE and Capt. James WARD, of Wythe
county, were married at the home of the bride on Plum Creek, Wednesday.
Mr. John MCHENRY and Miss Rosa BROWN, daughter of Mr.
Patton BROWN, both of Richlands, celebrated the holidays by
getting married, which they succeeded in doing under difficulties, as
Miss BROWN was still at school there was opposition at home to
the step. She was at Martha Washington College where the faculty became
suspicious of something of the kind and sent for her father. He was
bringing her home across country and lost her on the way where they had
stopped over night. Mr. MCHENRY however, found her without
difficulty and they took the train at this point for Bristol or some
other place where parental objection does not count. They were piloted
to North Carolina by Mr. John W. SPOTTS where the knot was tied.
Mr. and Mrs. MCHENRY passed through for Richlands Monday.
