J. W. STAFFORD, a druggist at Graham, this county, committed suicide Tuesday last by means of a pistol. No satisfactory reason for the step has come to light at this writing.

After a protracted illness, Mrs. Martha ST. CLAIR died at the home of her son west of town last Monday night. Mrs. ST. CLAIR was nearly eighty years of age and had a large circle of friends throughout the county. Her children living are Mrs. Rose SPOTTS, A. ST. CLAIR and J. C. STCLAIR. The funeral sermon, in the Methodist church was preached by Rev. B. W. S. BISHOP, who was assisted in the services by Rev. L. K. HAYNES and the body buried in the Citizens Cemetery.

Mr. J. A. WISOR, of Richlands and Miss Lena ELLISON, of Bluefield, were married, Monday, at the Central Hotel by Rev. Mr. SIMMONS.

Dr. James O'KEEFFE left Tuesday last for a trip to the wilds of West Virginia.

Mrs. HOOVER, who has been for some time ill at her home in town, is improved.

A strike is on at the mines of the Clinch Valley Coal and Coke Co. and all the miners are out.

Mrs. John BRITTAIN has gone to her former home in Tenn. where there is illness in her family.

Mr. Isaac E. CHAPMAN suffered a severe turn for the worse on Sunday last, but rallied and is now much better.

Mr. R. D. BROWN has on his place north of town, the celebrated trotting stallion, Lepanto, a horse with an excellent pedigree.
