THOMPSON VALLEY

Rev. J.S FRENCH preached an able sermon at Glenwood last Sunday last.

Mr. Thomas GEORGE came over from Tazewell yesterday.

Miss Nora HUNT has returned home from Horsepen Cove, where she has been visiting her sister.

Mr. Terro BOLLING who has been visiting in Smyth county for several days has returned home with his sister Miss Ida, who has been with her aunt for some weeks.

Mr. John T. SMITH has been on the sick list for several days but is improving.

No death has occurred in this community for many years that has been as great a loss as that of Dr. Thomas Richie PEERY. He was a gentleman in the fullest sense of the term, by breeding, education and association. He was a thoroughly scientific physician and surgeon and one of the most accomplished Masons in the state of Virginia. His loss is a severe blow to the poor of this region, to his relatives, friends and to the fraternity. The writer has been his intimate associate for may years. He was as pure in thought as a nun and as gentle as any woman. Loyal to his friends and tolerant of his enemies, if he had any, and under any and all circumstances he was a gentleman without fear and without reproach. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon from the home of his mother about two miles east of town, where he was interred in the family burying ground by his Masonic brethren.

WEBMASTER NOTE:  Not sure what community the above death occurred it - it may not have been Thompson Valley.
