Quite an enjoyable affair was the party given by Mr. and Mrs. J.G. WATTS
at their beautiful home near Five Oaks. There were a number a number of strangers present
besides the large number of young people from town and vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. WATTS
are charming as host and hostess and those present gave evidence by their happy faces and
bright eyes that they thoroughly enjoyed all done for their amusement. Dancing, games,
fortune telling and other pleasures lent wings to time and happy hours were but as moments
in duration. An elegant supper of good things was served about eleven o'clock. When the
party reluctantly bade their host and hostess adieu, faint streaks of dawn were observable
in the cast, and another bright and happy evening will remain in the remembrance of many

The marriage of Miss Cynthia WITTEN to Mr. J.M. NEWTON,
of Pocahontas, by Rev. DICKENSON of Pocahontas, was one of those
sensations of a lifetime that abide forever. After a sumptuous feast at the home of the
bride's father, Mr. J.R. WITTEN, the happy pair, accompanied by Priest
and Miss Jennie WITTEN and Mr. Sam KELLY, Miss Matilda WITTEN
and Mr. Jim PAINTER, a merry spin behind the coachman brought them to
Tazewell where they took the train for their future home, Pocahontas.
