Editor Clinch Valley News: We were glad to see in your last paper a notice to the effect that after
long years of waiting, the soon a suitable monument will be erected to mark
the last resting place of the gallant Col. William H. BROWN, who led
the 45th Va. Regt. during the late war, and who lost his life at Piedmout,
Va. fighting for a cause which we all deemed just. And now let the survivors
of the 45th Regt. the old gray Confederates, heed the call, not to arms, but
meet together again on the occasion of the unveiling of the monument at
Tazewell, and pay this last tribute to the memory of our honored Colonel,
whom we delight to follow during the days of war. We hope many of the
survivors of Companies "A", "G", "H" and "K" of Tazewell county "B" and "D"
of Wythe county: "C" of Grayson county; "F" of Bland county, and "E" and "I"
of Carroll county, which companies composed the 45th Regt. will be there,
and together with other Confederate veterans, and other organizations, join
in the procession and let this be a grand rally, and hand shaking of old
soldier boys, as well as a merited tribute to the memory of our honored
Colonel." Ord. Sergt. Co. A, 45th Va. Regt. Cedar Bluff, Nov. 5, 1895.
