GENERAL NEWS

The town council has purchased the spring on the YOST estate and Col. A.J. MAY'S spring and will add the waters from them to the present supply, when it is hoped, we will have enough for all purposes. The price paid for these springs was $1500.

A party consisting of Mr. and Mrs. ALDERSON, Mrs. HARGRAVE, Misses Josie SMYTH, Carrie DUNN, Sallie SURFACE, Hattie SURFACE, Mrs. T.A. LYNCH and Messrs. W.H. ALDERSON and James PIERCE went down to Bluefield Wednesday evening to attend the Remenyi concert. They were well pleased with their trip.

About 1 o'clock Sunday morning the Graham passenger depot caught on fire from the heating apparatus in the basement, and within an hour was totally destroyed. The tickets and a few other things were gotten out of the ticket office, but everything in the express office was lost expect such valuables as were kept in the safe. This was one of the finest depot buildings along the Norfork and Western railroad. It was built of gray sandstone and finely finished both inside and out, and cost about $28,000. The loss is covered with insurance to the amount of $17,000 which is amply sufficient to replace the building at this time, but we have not learned just what the company intends to do about rebuilding it. The freight depot is now being used for passenger and freight both.

Miss Maude SULLIVAN, who visited the Misses BELEW during the holidays has returned to Princeton. Miss SULLIVAN made many friends in Tazewell during her visit and there is regret in more than one heart at her departure.

Mr. W.F MANSFIELD, of Boston, Mass. and Miss Alta SMITH of Swords Creek were married at the latter place January 3rd. Rev. C.E. PAINTER officiating. We congratulate our friend and hope his path through life may be one of roses.
