A new post office has been established in this county at Maiden Spring, the name of the office being Ruskin. Mr. R.P. COPENHAVER has been appointed postmaster, and the office will be kept at the store of Bowen Brothers & Co.

Messrs. J. WALKER and Willie Rees BOWEN have bought the mercantile business of J.G. Barns & Co. at Maiden Spring, and the business will be conducted under the style of Bowen Bros. & Co. We are informed that Mr. J.D. HARRISSON is the company.

The Chilhowie Lumber Company, which is engaged in manufacturing into lumber the large boundary of timber purchased by it in the head of Poor Valley, has secured the right of way for a tramway down that valley to Saltville, and will begin very soon to construct the tramway.

The funeral services of Mr. James C. SPOTTS were held at the Presbyterian church on last Friday afternoon at four o'clock, conducted by Rev. W.W. RUFF, and assisted by Revs. J.E. WOOL and W.L. WAYTE. A very large congregation was present to show their respect to the deceased who was held in universal esteem in the community. By request of the sons of the deceased, the services were of the simplest ???. At their conclusion the remains were buried at the old cemetery.

Mr. A.P. GILLESPIE returned yesterday afternoon from Grundy and brought the intelligence that Mrs. Jennie RATLIFF is very sick at that place.

Cliff LILLY, who had been in the United States Army for three years, and who is now in the Philippines, re-enlisted a short time ago. He seems to be pleased with army service.

The farmers in this vicinity are now busy getting ready to plant corn. It is to be hoped that a much larger crop will be raised this year, and less bought by our people from the west.
