CEDAR BLUFF & TAZEWELL

Mr. E.E. LAIRD, assistant P. M. is in charge of the Post Office and the central telephone office during the temporary absence of our Postmaster.

A horrible accident occurred at our neighboring town of Richlands last Saturday. A brakeman of a freight train, while coupling cars, slipped on the icy tracks, falling between the cars, and his head was crushed in a horrible manner and severed from the body. We learn that his name was REYNOLDS and his home was Danville, Virginia.

Our young friend and postmaster, Mr. William P. CECIL returned from his visit to Kentucky today, not alone however, but bringing with him a charming young bride, Miss EVANS of Hazel Green, in the famous blue grass region, the land of fair women and brave men. Mrs. MAY, sister of the groom was one of the party and happy couple are now being... ? by a host of friends, who are extending congratulations and best wishes for their future happiness.

Tazewell - Mr. Joseph H. HARMAN, a well known citizen of Tazewell, died at North Tazewell on Wednesday afternoon, and buried yesterday at the old burying ground on the farm of the late Capt. W.E. PEERY. Mr. HARMAN was an ex-confederate soldier, and had taught school in the county for many years. He was a brother of Mrs. C.W. DOAK, Mrs. A.D. KISER, at whose home he died, Mrs. A. WHITE and Mr. Henry HARMAN of our town. Mr. HARMAN has many friends in the county who are grieved by his death.

The Tazewell Supply Co. have 500 lbs. of candy which they propose to distribute free for Christmas, to those children who may be unable, for any reason, to buy candy for themselves. This is generous and kind in the PEERY Brothers and will be appreciated by the public, as well as the beneficiaries. In order to get the benefit come to the News office, and get and order, or certificate to the Supply Co, at North Tazewell. This must be done in order to guarantee that those who are entitled to the gift shall receive it. The company will begin the distribution of the candy about December 20th.
