Mr. PARSONS, the shoemaker, whose leg was broken by a fall several weeks ago is improving.

The Land Company sergeant, Squire MCCALL, has made quite a large number of sales during the past six months and had many more booked for the near future. Now is the best time that has ever been to get a good lot at a reasonable price.

Saturday night as Johnny WITTEN was returning from Rockville with some money belonging to his father, Dr. WITTEN, he was held up by three colored men or white men blacked, and searched. Fortunately they did not find the money.

Augustus S. WITTEN, a well known citizen of Tazewell County, died last Sunday morning at 8 am at his home on Plum Creek, at the age of 65. The supposed cause of his death was heart trouble. He leaves a widow and four children: Mrs. A.F. HENDRICKS, of Welch, WV.; Mrs. R.V. ELLIOT of Ceres, Va.; Messrs. J. WILK and Oscar, of this county. He leaves six brothers and five sisters. All his brothers, except Samuel M. WITTEN, of Ogden, Utah, are residents of Tazewell Co. The others are Col. T.G. WITTEN, a well known merchant of Tazewell; Hon. James R. WITTEN, of East Tazewell, R. B., Jno. H., and Andrew WITTEN, all prominent citizens of the county. Sisters are: Mrs. P.R. HICKS, of Pulaski; Mrs. Linnie GILLESPIE, of Bluefield; Mrs. E.S. HOWARD; Mrs. R.K. KELLY, and Mrs. James S. PEERY. The funeral services were conducted by Revs. RUFF and MOWBRAY, and the remains were laid to rest in the old family burial grounds.
