In the criminal court yesterday Matt DODD was found guilty of murder in the second degree. A motion was made for a new trial and argument on the motion will be heard later. The penalty for second degree murder is not less than five nor more then twenty years in the penitentiary. It is general consensus that DODD got off easy, for the killing of PALMER was one of the most lamentable occurrences in the history of the county.

The sad intelligence reaches us this morning of the death of Hon. W.G. MUSTARD, which sad event occurred last night at his home near Wittens Mills at 9:15 o'clock. Mr. MUSTARD was one of the wealthiest and best known men in the county, and his death will be widely mourned. Burial services will take place at his late residence tomorrow at 11 am.

On Sunday evening, April 12th, Mrs. YOUNG, wife of D.F. YOUNG, died at her home at Tip Top, Va. Her remains were taken to Thompson Valley and laid to rest in the old family burial ground beside her mother, father and daughter, to await the resurrection. She leaves a husband and seven children. May these sorrowing ones look up through their tears and recognize that God is too wise to err and to good to be unkind, and be able to say from the hear, the Lord hath given and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be His Holy name.

Mr. C.W. CECIL, the accommodating clerk of Steele Hurt & Co. spent Saturday night and Sunday with homefolks at Pisgah.
