GENERAL NEWS

George RHUDY, 28 (or 23, can't tell, looks like a 3 or 8) years old, of Burke's Garden, for three years assistant postmaster at Pocahontas, was arraigned in the United States Court this week at Big Stone Gap upon a charge of taking about $700 from the money order department of the post office. Upon his own confession he was given a year and a day in prison, and fined $600. It is said that RHUDY took only small amounts at a time - thirty dollars being the largest amount taken at any one time - by making out short money orders for Hungarians and Italians who could not read English. The unfortunate occurrence comes as a great surprise and shock to the family and friends of RHUDY. His family are among the best and most highly respected people in this county, and he himself has always been regarded as pre-eminently trust-worthy and moral. It now develops that there was a woman in the case. He fell into her toils and came down with a crash. Great Sympathy is felt and expressed for the entire family.

Ellett & Frazier, the well known grocers of Pocahontas have purchased the grocery and dry goods business of John L. BABER, one of the best properties in town. It is not stated what Mr. BABER'S plans are for the future. He has been in business in Pocahontas for more than twenty years and has become entirely identified with the city and his removal would be felt. Messrs. Ellett & Frazier have been in the grocery business for several years, commencing in a small way, but growing all the time. Their success was predicted from the start.
