GENERAL NEWS

Ab CAUDILL one of the prisoners who broke jail here about two weeks ago, was captured last night in the home of his father-in-law, William REESE by Sheriff HARMAN. The officers suspicions had been aroused during the day, and went to the house last night, and in the search of the rooms discovered CAUDILL concealed in a box, covered by a curtain, and used as a dressing room. He was placed in jail.

Tip Top, June 24 - Mrs. Jane MCDOWELL, widow of the late William D. MCDOWELL, died here at her home on the morning of the 21st, aged over 79 years, after a long illness. She was one of the family of six daughters, and three sons, children of the late William COMPTON, of Bluestone, this county, all of whom are dead except Mrs. Nancy COMPTON, of Bland, and Mrs. Elizabeth TABOR, of St. Clair. Funeral services were held at the home, on Tuesday, by Rev. William HICKS, pastor of the M.E. Church, assisted by Rev. James W. HOLBROOK, who had been a life long friend and neighbor, after which she was tenderly laid to rest by loving friends who will long remember her for many deeds of kindness. Mrs. MCDOWELL was the mother of six children - three dead - Bert a son and Mrs. Fannie SAUNDERS, and one that died in infancy. There are still living Charles, James and Ella, besides several grand children, we mourn the loss of one whose place an never be filled. Mrs. MCDOWELL often expressed herself as ready and willing to go when the messenger should come to call her.
