Mrs. R. K. GILLESPIE has been suffering from a
severe cold for several days.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom ENGLAND visited friends at Indian the last of
the week.
Mrs. Sam WARD has been sick the past week at her father's, Rev.
G. R. THOMAS.
Mrs. C.H. TRAYER visited Rev. and Mrs. PANGLE at Maxwell,
yesterday. Mrs. PANGLE can now walk around in the house, but
unable to sit up all day.
Misses Maggie BREWSTER and Lou STEPHENSON spent Sunday
with Mrs. GRINSTEAD.
Mrs. Byrd BREWSTER (Nee: Miss Mattie Earls) was
called to Richlands on yesterday to see her husband who is very ill of
pneumonia at Dr. WILLIAMS hospital. His leg was amputated just
above the knee on Friday. It will be remembered that he lost his leg
about eight months ago while catching the bridge cars, going to his
work.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles GRIFFITH left Sunday for Richlands on their
way to Red Ash, where they will reside.
John STURGILL was on the sick list last week.
Miss Cora B. CHRISTIAN made a flying trip to Richlands Friday
afternoon.
Miss Pearl MCGUIRE spent the weekend at her home at Cedar Bluff.
Mr. Sam STURGILL, of Tenn. spent Sunday night visiting his
cousin, John STURGILL.
Miss Cora BREWSTER spent Sunday afternoon at Richlands.
Rev. Warren BALDWIN, of the Christian church at
Richlands, preached an excellent sermon at the Union church here Sunday
night, and was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. R.M. SPARKS.
W. R. SPARKS made a business trip to Tazewell the last of the
week.
James JOHNSON has been on the sick list for some time.
Miss Helen MCGUIRE, Cedar Bluff, spend Saturday and Sunday
visiting her Aunt, Mrs. W.B. STEELE.
Only four more days of school at this place. A number of children are
still detained on account of measles and chicken pox.
R.K. GILLESPIE and George HURT attended the funeral and
burial of their cousin, Mrs. H.G. MCCALL, at Tazewell, on last
Sunday.
Miss SYERS is teaching the Gillespie-Hurt school.
Miss Ethel CAMERON, teacher on Pounding Mill Branch, was summoned
to Tazewell yesterday on a Graham-Bluefield street car case.
Miss Lettie RINGSTAFF is suffering from a severe cold.
Mrs. Susan RINGSTAFF has returned from a visit to her daughter,
Mrs. William MULBERY.
Revs. Warren BALDWIN and BEHRMAN, Christian
and Methodist ministers of Richlands, will accompany several other
temperance workers from that place here and give a free entertainment
and lecture on Friday at the union church. Everybody invited.
W. B. HARRIS, Richmond, is visiting his family at this place.
The following Mesdames spent a day recently with Mrs. Charles
GRINSTEAD; T.M. LUTTRELL, W. F. GRINSTEAD, W.W.
WINGO, G. B. WINGO, of Indian; James JONES, Richlands;
O.H. TRAYER, this place.
FALLS MILLS
Feb. 28 - Mrs. WAGNER, wife of Rev. Adam
WAGNER, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B.W. TABLOR,
February 18th and was buried the 20th at the family grave yard on upper
Mud Fork. She joined the Methodist church at an early age and lived a
faithful Christian ever since. Her husband preceded her to the great
beyond many years ago. She is survived by one sister Eliza DUDLEY;
her daughters are Mrs. Henry PERDUE, Mrs. B.W. TABOR, and
Mrs. H.J. TABOR; her sons, Paris, Stafford, John, Dan, Joe,
George and James.
ROCKY GAP
Mrs. Cynthia ADKINS is visiting her sister, Mrs.
S. E. STINSON.
The relatives and many friends of Mr. Sallie SHANNON were sorry
to hear that she had suffered a partial stroke of paralysis Sunday and
at this writing is no better.
Miss Sarah ALBERTY returned to her home at Falls Mills today
after spending a week at the home of H.G. THOMPSON.
Mrs. Norah CALDWELL, whose illness has been reported before in
this paper, we are sorry to say is worse today.
Mrs. Jennie COMPTOM, of Hicksville, took the train at this place
today for an extended visit to her daughter in Birmingham Alabama.
Miss Cora WILEY spent Sunday night with her cousin, Nannie
THOMPSON.
Mr. Will TUGGIE, who was right sick with tonsillitis last week is
about well.
