The large building belonging to Steele-Hurt and Co. known as the Barita Mill was burned this morning at about five o'clock. The building was erected and equipped a few years ago at a cost of several thousand dollars, only ran a short time; was sold for indebtedness. Steele-Hurt and Co. have been talking for the past year of putting in a hundred lb a day flouring plant, water power site was an ideal one, N.W. switch extends to the mill. The building was about 80 by 120 feet or more, three and a half stories. We understand that some fellows were playing cards in there yesterday and last night. The fire was discovered about 4:45 by some of the earliest risers of the town. The loss is considerable. Steele-Hurt and Company had refused several big offers for the property.
