Saturday was a big day in Pounding Mill. The town was full of people attending the lodge
and ice cream festival. Boxley Quarry crusher stated at 1:30, Mrs. C.M.
Hunter put the first rocks a number of people were present and remained until the works
closed for the big dinner given by the Superintendent, C.M.
HUNTER. A number of gentlemen friends were
present, quite a number of white men borders were given a free dinner. A large crusher
will soon be installed by the side of the one stated Saturday, the tipple is 70 feet tall
and it requires a lot of work to build the install machinery. Thousands of dollars have
been spent on these works, which will now begin to bring in returns. The people
congratulate Mr. HUNTER and his able assistants on the
progress of their work, with but two accidents to two men from which they recovered.
Rev. Harold DICKENS is preaching some interesting sermons.
He sings a solo at each service, which is enjoyed very much. The meeting will close Sunday
night.
Mr. J.W. BAKER, one of Tazewell's old school
teachers, is here attending the meeting and visiting R. K. GILLESPIE.
Barbara HURT visited relatives in Tazewell last
week
Esq. G.R. THOMAS and G.C. SHAMBLIN held court here Saturday night. A
colored man and wife were fussing after getting off at #6. He slapped her over a dispute
they had and she cried, but said the lick did not hurt her but she was crying to make his
sorry.
Mr. HUNTER'S oldest son, James, celebrated his 9th
birthday last week near Mr. Burley CUMPTON'S. Several were in the picnic crowd and
enjoyed a nice dish of honey brought out by Mrs. CUMPTON.
Rex STEELE spent Friday and Saturday in Bluefield
playing ball, and made a business trip to Tazewell today.
