LOCAL TAZEWELL

Miss Tot MCCALL and Miss Nell GEORGE were hostesses Wednesday afternoon at the MCCALL home east of town at an auction bridge party, which is said to have been one of the most delightful social events of   the year. The rooms were handsomely decorated in red carnations and dog wood and a six course luncheon was served, consisting of most delicious refreshments. The tally cards used were hand painted, and served as nice souvenirs of the occasion. The following ladies were present: Mesdames, P.D. JOHNSTON, A.G. RUSSELL, A.J. MAY, J.A. GREEVER, Lucy WALKER, W.T. GILLESPIE, Nanola PEERY, C.T. ST. CLAIR, G.W. ST. CLAIR, P.H. FUDGE, R.B. GILLESPIE, W.A. SCOTT, J.G. BUSTON, S.C. GRAHAM, J.G. KELLY. Misses Mayola GILLESPIE, Rosalie STRAS, Bessie Jackson, Sallie BRITTIAN, Evangeline PALMER, Maybelle GREEVER, Georgie CROCKETT, Sadie MCGUIRE.

Miss Mabel, the thirteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.B. STEELE, of Steelsburg, died on passenger train No. 12 between Tip Top and  Graham Wednesday morning, while enroute to Bluefield for an operation. The young lady had been ill for sometime, and had been advised by physicians to undergo an operation at Bluefield. She was accompanied by her mother, and Ed MCGUIRE, and after leaving Tip Top she became suddenly ill and expired before medical aid could be reached. Her sudden death was probably due to the bursting of an abscess near her right ear. The remains were taken to her home at Steelsburg Wednesday evening.
