LOCAL TAZEWELL

Samuel WILLIAMS died at his home in North Tazewell on Thursday of last week. He was 84 years of age.

A letter from Rev. George W. FOX, White Pine, TN, renewing his wife's subscription, states that at that time there had been no winter in his section, and fortunately too, for he says, "we pay twelve to fourteen dollars a ton for coal and glad to get it at that" His wife was Miss LOWDER, of Tazewell.

Mr. Jessie L. EPPERSON, of Pocahontas, was here this week and subscribed for the News. Mr. EPPERSON served with the American Expeditionary Forces and left a fore finger off his left hand, as a result of the expert marksmanship of a German machine gunner. The Home Service has made application for a Victory Medal for him.

Mr. and Mrs. C.H. REYNOLDS are happy again, Their daughter, Mrs. M.B CARR of Tazewell Tennessee, wired some days ago, "It is a 10 pound boy" When brother REYNOLDS read that telegram his smile ran from ear to ear, as far as it could.

Mr. M.O. CALDWELL, Joe KINDER, two nice young follows, were enrolled in the Junior class on Wednesday, and given the password and the grip.

J.B. MEEK, A.J. STEELE, for himself and his daughter, Mrs. HAWKINS, Mrs. J.R. HICKS, Maryland, members of the Senior Class, paid their tuition this week. A number of others - want of space forbids naming all of them.

Mr. William H. WERTH will leave today for Baltimore on legal business and will also visit his son, William G. at Harpers Ferry, while away.
