A DELIGHTFUL SOCIAL AFFAIR - Senator and Mrs. A. St. Clair Celebrate Golden Wedding And Throngs Visit Home and Enjoy Festive Occasion
On the various customs or ordinances that have grown into refined human society there is none more resplendent and sacred than the marriage institution. when God created our first parents, he then decreed the relation that should be held by the two sexes of the human family that were to people the earth. And when he sent his son into the world to redeem fallen humanity, that precious son did not fail to give emphasis to the
sacredness of the ordinance of matrimony.
In these latter days, when the "Divorce Evil" threatens destruction to the institution of marriage and disintegration of our home and family circles, it is well for any community to have events transpire in its
midst that will restore herein a veneration for marriage as a "holy estate." Such an event has just occurred in the Town of Tazewell.
On the 26th of September, 1871, Alexander ST. CLAIR and Maria J.
TIFFANY were united in marriage at the old Tiffany homestead on Bluestone, Tazewell County, Virginia. And on the 26th of September, 1921, they celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their union, their "Golden Wedding" at their beautiful home in the Town of Tazewell. It was their happy
privilege to have with them on this rare occasion eight manly sons, and one charming daughter, and twelve grandchildren, only one grand child, Charles Tiffany
ST. CLAIR, Jr., a student at the University of Virginia, being absent.
Cards had been sent out to hundreds of friends of Mr and Mrs. ST.
CLAIR, inviting them to attend the receptions - one for ladies from 3:30 to 6:00 PM and the other for gentlemen and their wives, from 8 to 11 PM. The spacious halls and rooms on the first floor where used for receiving and serving refreshments to the guests.
