GENERAL NEWS

The 4-H Club Rally held at Tazewell Saturday, June 7, was a success in every way. It was attended by about 250 people counting both adults and Club boys and girls. The program of the morning was primarily by the boys and girls. The Honorable J.N. HARMAN spoke on the value of knowing how to work; Mr. Lacy TYNES and others put in a good word for the work we are trying to carry on in the county. The program concluded all present enjoyed a bountiful dinner on the court house lawn. The W.C.T.U. served ice cream and plenty of it. In the afternoon all club members went in a body to the movies secured for them by the Civic League of Tazewell. A short meeting of all the club members from the various clubs in the county, it was unanimously voted upon that an appeal be made to the board of supervisors to continue Home Demonstration work in the county for another year. County Club officers were elected as follows: President, Dolly CRUEY, Richlands Club; Secy Treas., Violet BOURNE, of Tazewell Club; Reporter Mary WHITE, of Richlands Club; Yell Leader, Jack WYGAL, of Richlands Club; Song Leader, Sallie BEAVERS, of Crocketts Cove Club. This county club will get together on different occasions to decide matters of importance that are to be brought before the different clubs in regard to their work. A vote of thanks is sent to all those who through their cooperation made the Rally possible. This includes those who offered prizes, who helped get the club members in to the Rally, those who donated supplies for demonstrations, etc. Prizes won are as follows: Best speech on club work - Violet BOURNE, $5, offered by Mr. C.R. BROWN; Second best speech, Elizabeth SHRADER, $2.50, offered by L.A. TYNES. Best club report - Mildred SMITH, $5, offered by Tazewell Farm Bureau; second best report, Mary WHITE, $2.50 offered by Mr. Lacy TYNES. Members of clothing demonstration team - Elizabeth SHRADER, Sallie BEAVERS, material for gingham dress offered by Mr. Byrd CHAPMAN and Mr. Jeff WARD. Members of poultry demonstration team - Wallace MOSS, shirt offered by Mr. BOTTIEMORE; Louise MOSS, $2.50. Mt. View Club $5.00 for having all members present, offered by Tazewell Woman's club. Crocketts Cove for having all members present, $5.00 offered by Mr. H.P BRITTAIN. Programs furnished, by Mr. A.Z. LITZ. To the girl and to the boy who helped most to make the Rally a success, year's subscription to Clinch Valley News, offered by Mr. LESLIE, Elizabeth SHRADER, Wallace MOSS.
