Last Sunday morning there was some lively gun play between Capt. Jack HELMANDOLLAR, North Tazewell and George HALL and Dewey BELCHER, on the river road below Newtown. One of the men opened fire on the officer, the bullet grazing and burning his left hand. The officer returned the fire, and "busted" a glass can containing whiskey which BELCHER was carrying under his arm. BELCHER had a close call by follishly and devilishly firing upon the officer. He was landed in jail by HELMANDOLLAR.

W.D MAYS, on old soldier, aged 80 years, died on May 17th in the Home in Richmond, after about six or seven years there. He has a brother, Rush MAYS, in this county, brothers in Arkansas, Rev. Preston MAYS, and Dr. J.F. MAYS. Deceased was a member of Company B and served during the entire four years of the war.

The people of Lebanon, experienced their first cyclone on last Thursday afternoon about 5:30 o'clock, when it struck about two miles of Lebanon and destroyed almost everything in its path, trees, telegraph poles, houses, barns, fences and a store building. Two orchids were completely destroyed, pulling up the trees by their roots. The store belonging to Harvey GIBSON was entirely blown away and nearly all of the goods was destroyed. Charles GIBSON, who was in the store at the time it was destroyed, was the only known casualty. He as taken to the hospital at Lebanon, with a broken leg. According to a witness the cyclone picked up large boulders weighing two tons or more and carried them for several hundred yards. This was a rare thing for this country, the first one near here for forty years.

Mrs. Eddie MEDLEY died Wednesday morning, May 28th at the home of her parents, at Maben, West Virginia. Besides a husband she leaves a number of relatives - Mrs. J.P. MORGAN, Maben; Mrs. Mack HASH, Miss Gracie MORGAN, Miss Leola MORGAN, Mrs. Bruce LILLY, Charleston, and James MORGAN, a brother, Maben. The family all are sincerely grateful to friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy during this sad bereavement - Edding Morgan and family.
