Mrs. Louise BENNETT, wife of W. R. BENNETT,
well known North Tazewell Citizen, died at her home on the farm of Shields HARMAN,
where her husband has been a trusted overseer for several years, last
Tuesday morning. She was 57 years old and is survived by her husband and six
children, four girls and two boys. The funeral and burial services took
place Wednesday, the service being at the home, and the interment at noon in
the new cemetery. The Rev. Mr. DICKENSON, of North Tazewell, had
charge of the service in the absence of the Rev. Dr. ARROWOOD, Mrs. BENNETT
having been a member of the Presbyterian church and a leader in religious
activities in her community.
S. L. BOURNE, son of the late Thomas BOURNE, Gratton, died at
his home in Bluefield, Va. Dec. 28th.
Mr. John FOX died at his home near Christiansburg, one day last week.
He moved from Burke's Garden several years ago. He was father of Mrs. Sam BOURNE,
Gratton, father of Rev. George FOX, whose wife was Miss Josie LOWDER,
of Tazewell.
Sam J. GILLESPIE - This well-known and popular man died at his home
at Raven last Thursday, aged 54. He leaves a widow and 8 children. His
father, John F. GILLESPIE, was well known in this county. For a
number of years he was traveling salesman for Stras, Harman and Co., North
Tazewell. A year or more ago he was forced to resign due to bad health.
Samuel HANSHAW, an aged citizen, died at his home in Poor Valley. He
was well known in Tazewell.
George ONEY, one of Tazewell's oldest citizens, died at his home in
the west end, one day last week. He had been in poor health for several
years.
