On November 1st Tazewell County received a loan of $37,500 from the
Reconstruction Finance Corporation. Of this amount approximately $7,000 was appropriated directly to the town of Bluefield, Virginia. The work was late getting a start in Bluefield. Last week however, over 150 men were employed and a similar number will work during the present week. Every effort has been
made to distribute the work in all sections of the county where there were needy families. Twenty crews have been working, employing a total of over 1,000 men. The men are paid $2.00 a day and no one man is allowed to earn more than $24.00 per month. Up to the present time $17,297.92 has been expended in the county, leaving a balance of a little over $12,000.00. Those who are in touch with the work have expressed them selves as being pleased with the results. The Highway Department has rated the work done in Tazewell County very highly. From all over the county come reports that not only have the individual families been
benefited, but business in general has improved and there is a feeling of optimism and encouragement everywhere. To the local committeemen and
especially to the chairman of the district. They have given of their time cheerfully and have
received no remuneration whatever. It has been decided that no more applications will be considered. All committeemen are therefore requested not to receive any more.
