JONES and Miss Trula HOWERY, both of Pisgah, were married at Bristol last Friday. Mr.
JONES is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. JONES. Miss HOWERY the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W.
HOWERY, Miss HOWERY being one of the county's most attractive and popular girls. Many friends extended their congratulations, wishing them a long life of happiness and success.
Mr. R.P. JOHNSON, of Wytheville, was a business visitor to New Castle
a few days ago. Mr. JOHNSON, an admirer of the last James W. MARSHALL (Cyclone Jim), left with the editor of this paper a portrait of Craig's late distinguished citizen with the request that it be presented to the county and placed in the court house. The picture is now in the care of Mr. C.P.

On Monday afternoon, July 11, the midsummer meeting of the Garden Club will be held at the home of Mrs. William M.
GILLESPIE. The East Section of the Club will stage a flower show at this meeting. Everybody is asked to bring
bouquets of mixed flowers and specimen blossoms, which will be judged by popular vote and first and second honors awarded. All exhibits are to be at Mrs.
GILLEPSIE'S at 3:30 o'clock, Monday afternoon, July 11.
A number of people are of the opinion that the bean beetles are retiring at night and retreating in the day from the many bean patches in this community, but it may just be another of those unfounded rumors that persist in keeping alive. It is said that Clint Newberry
BARNES has withdrawn the reward of so much per for the beetles caught in his patch in the Cove.
Sergeant PHILLIPS, of North Tazewell, desires to remind the people of his town that if the past water taxes are not paid by the 15th the water will be cut off. He urges the delinquents to pay at once and save trouble.
