GENERAL NEWS

Lawyer "Buddy" BRITTAIN was the only intercessory representative in Judge Albert PEERY'S Trial Justice court Wednesday. His client has carried on a dance without a license, and was fined $50 which was suspended provided he secure a license. Other applicants for dancing privileges were also in the court. It was said many years ago that those who dance must pay the fiddler. The lawyer mentioned, who has developed from a "sprig" of the law into a good sized "limb" of this same, is beginning the building of a house near his old home, and will need all the support and sympathy of his associates. The house will be ready for occupancy sometime this coming summer or fall.

A couple of able-bodied men had a fight down about Pounding Mill and decided to have the court pass upon the legitimacy of the claim who struck the first lick. There were many witnesses pro and con. One spectator suggested that the two fellows be stripped for action and settle the matter in the presence of the court and quis of Quisenberry rules applying, and a fight to the finish had. If this didn't satisfy the participants, it was suggested that they take a turn at Hitler or the waps.

A Bluefield citizen had the misfortune to break a traffic law in the presence of the State Police. He attempted to pass a car on a sharp curve. He was lectured by the court for his carelessness and his reckless disregard for human life, and then added a fine of $10 and war tax. He forked over the cash and went on his way and will hereafter keep his eye skinned for the State police.
