The Fort Maiden Spring Chapter D.A.R. met on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. R.O. CROCKETT, with Miss Lucille THOMPSON as joint hostess. Mrs. SAYERS ...?.... regent, announced the State Conference would be in Lynchburg, March 17-18-19. The regent and two members will attend the meeting. Mrs. HARMAN urged that all members and citizens continued saving cancelled postage stamps. Give them to Mrs. M.H. KISER, chairman, Mrs. S.F. HARMAN, regent, or any member of the D.A.R. The dye will be recovered and sold the help support an English children's hospital. Mrs. W.F. HARMAN and Mrs. M.L. HARMAN were elected to membership in the Chapter. The D.A.R. Continental Congress will meet in Washington April 20-25. Mrs. HARMAN, regent, will attend as delegate, and also in her capacity as a member of the State Board. Mrs. R.O. CROCKETT, Miss Margaret HARMAN and Mrs. Grat M. BOWEN also expect to attend the meeting. The program "Virginia Historic Highways" was in charge of Mrs. Grat M. BOWEN. At the conclusion of the program the hostess served a delicious dessert course to members and guests, Mrs. A.Z. LITZ, Mrs. H. Elmer KISER and Mrs. Carl C. GILLESPIE. The celebration of George Washington's birthday was included in the regular monthly meeting. The meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. L.L. DICKENSON and Mrs. M.H. KISER in March.

Bandy, Feb 11 - Mr. and Mrs. G.W. JONES wish to announce the marriage of their daughter, Ella to Mr. William BANDY, on January 28th, at North Tazewell. The Rev. D.B. WRIGHT, officiated. After the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. BANDY had supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David JONES at North Tazewell, and then returned to Bandy where they were giving an old fashioned serenade by the people of that community. They are making their home at Sayersville, where Mr. BANDY is engaged as a merchant.

Mr. and Mrs. W.F. KINDER, of North Tazewell, announce the marriage of their daughter, Louise Elizabeth, to Mr. Joseph Brown KESSLER, on January 25th, at the Montgomery Baptist Church, with the Rev. Leonard STAGG, officiating. The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, Glenn E. KINDER, wore a light blue costume suit and carried a bridal bouquet of white roses and white lilacs. Miss Nolia LOVELL, of Charleston, West Virginia, maid of honor, was wearing pink and carrying pink roses. Mrs. C.L. TAYLOR, of Montgomery, and Mrs. Ed STEVENS, sister of the bride, of Bluefield, Va., were here other attendants. Mr. C.L. TAYLOR, of Montgomery, was best man. The ring ceremony was used. Ushers were T.A. KESSLER, Jr., brother of the groom, and Jrs. TAYLOR, of Montgomery. The church was beautifully decorated with white gladiolas and ferns. Miss Gene CLARK, organist, played "O Promise Me," by DeKoven, and "Traumerei" by Schumane, as the guests arrived. She also accompanied Miss Kathleen WALK, of Tazewell, cousin of the bride, who sang, "I Love You, Truely," by Carrie Jacobs Bond. Mrs. KESSIER is a graduate of Tazewell high school and is now employed with C.G. STEELE Furniture Co., as bookkeeper in Montgomery, West Virginia. Mr. KESSIER was graduated from Montgomery high school and also from West Virginia Institute of Technology, where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Alpha Fraternity. He also takes a very active part in the Montgomery ? Club. He is now employed at Carbine and Carbon Chemical Corp, as analytical chemist. The couple are residing at 113 1-2 5th Ave. Montgomery, having recenty returned from a wedding trip to Miami Beach, Florida.

Miss Ruby HARRIS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. HARRIS, of Tazewell, became the bride of Mr. Earl C. VAUGHT, of Saltville, Virginia, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.M. VAUGHT, Saturday, February 7, at 8:00 o'clock at Pleasant Hill church with Dr. W.P. NICKELL, of Max Meadows, Virginia, performing the ring ceremony. The ceremony was performed before an arch of rhododendron, carnations and snapdragons over pink and white candles on each side of the arch. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was attired in her mothers wedding dress of 1905, with ?. Her flowers was an old fashioned bouquet of roses and sweet peas. Miss Hazel CREGAR, of Bluefield, Virginia, was maid of honor and the bride's only attendant. She was attired in pink lace carrying a bouquet of roses. Miss Katherine CREGAR sang "I Love You Truely" and "O Promise Me," accompanied by Mrs. Alvan CREGAR. Miss Letha YOUNG played the wedding march. Mr. Alvah CREGAR was best man for Mr. VAUGHT. Ushers were J. Baird RHUDY, Cecil RHUDY and Bobby WIMMER, all the Tazewell and James ASBURY, of Berwind, West Virginia. A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents after the ceremony for attendants and relatives. The house was decorated with pink and white candles and cut flowers. Mrs. HARRIS, mother of the bride, was attired in black with a corsage of roses and cut flowers. Mrs. VAUGHT is a gradated of Tazewell High School and attended Radford State Teachers college. Mr. VAUGHT is a graduate of Glade Springs High School and attended William and Mary College.

Miss Shirley Sylvia SHARDER, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P.G. SHRADER, of Bishop, Virginia, and Mr. Johnny SABATO, son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip SABATO, also of Bishop, were married on January 31. The ceremony was performed in the home of the officiating minister, the Rev. John A. MCNULTY, at Pocahontas. Only close relatives of both families attended the wedding. Mrs. Leo SABATO was the only attendant of the bride and Mr. Leo SABATO acted as best man for his brother. Mrs. SABATO received her education at Berea College, Beres, Ky, and for the past several years has been employed by the Pocahontas Fuel Company at Bishop. Mr. SABATO is a graduate of the Big Creek high school and is also employed by the Pocahontas Fuel Company. After the ceremony the couple left for a wedding trip to New York. 

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, in the West Graham Methodist church for Mrs. W.E. THOMASON, aged 56, who died at her home in Bluefield Monday. Before marriage Mrs. THOMASON was Miss Lydia CARBAUGH, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.H. CARBAUGH. Mrs. THOMASON is survived by six daughters and two sons; Jean, Thelma, Bluefield; Mrs. Era HARVEY, Kegly; Mrs. Fred FARLEY, of Freeman; Mrs. Kenneth BRILTS, of Bluewell; Mrs. Frank MIZE, of West Graham; Walter THOMASON and W.E. THOMASON, Jr. of Bluefield, Va.; and the following brothers and sisters; Mrs. Grat W. SLADE, Bluefield, Va.; Mrs. W.P. SLADE, Mrs. D.F. SLADE, of Shawvers Mill; Mrs. T.H. NIDERMALER, Muncie, Indiana; D.C. CARBAUGH, of Gratton, L.H. CARBAUGH, of and G.W. CARBAUGH, of West Graham.

Carl C. GILLESPIE was a business visitor in Richmond last week.

Mrs. S.B. BURTON remains ill at her home on Tazewell Avenue.

Charlie KINCER, from Donte, was in Tazewell Thursday as the guest of his mother, Mrs. Henry KINCER.

Mrs. Sam THOMPSON, of the Cove is the guest of her sister Mrs. Ward DUVALL, of Alexandria, Virginia.

Mrs. C.F. KITTS, who has been ill at her home near Adria, is reported as being improved.

William VAN DYKE, student at VPI, spent the weekend here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.O. VAN DYKE, in Tazewell.

P.O. BAILEY, former resident engineer of Tazewell County, but now of Abingdon, Virginia, was a visitor here on Tuesday.

Bill HOLLEY, of Warren's barber shop underwent an operation for appendicitis in Clinch Valley Clinic Monday.

Pvt. Paul BALES stationed with the U.S. forces at Camp Pendleton, Virginia, is visiting his mother, Mrs. Ethel BALES, of North Tazewell.

Miss Margaret STEVENSON, member of the Lebanon high school faculty, was in Tazewell the past weekend to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. V.L. STEVENSON.

Mrs. H.F. IRESON, of North Tazewell, is a patient in the Clinch Valley Clinic, Richlands, where she is undergoing treatment.

Mrs. W.L. PAINTER is a patient in a Bluefield hospital, where she underwent an operation for appendicitis.

Mrs. Ester Jane GREEVER, a student of Tazewell High School, ws admitted to the Clinch Valley Clinic, Richlands, on Wednesday, were she underwent an operation for appendicitis.

Jimmy REYNOLDS, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.F. REYNOLDS, of Tazewell underwent an operation for appendicitis in a Bluefield hospital this week.

Miss Sara Joe PRESTON, a student at St. Catherine's Richmond, Virginia, spent the past weekend as the guest of her mother, Mrs. Henry PRESTON and family in Tazewell.

Mr. and Mrs. Darrell POOLE of Charleston, S.C. have been visitors to Tazewell the past week. Mrs. POOLE is remembered as the former Miss Beulah DILLOW, of Tazewell.

Randolph HOOVER, student at V.P.I. spent the weekend in Tazewell as the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam HOOVER.

Mrs. P.D. JOHNSTON, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. J.B. DILWORTH, of Philadelphia, Pa. has returned to her home in Tazewell.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. John P. MOSS, in Johnson City, a son. Mrs. MOSS is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther DICKENSON, of North Tazewell.

Miss Jenny PRESTON, daughter of Mrs. Henry PRESTON Jr., of Tazewell, has been a patient in the Bluefield sanitarium the past week, where she has been receiving treatment. Mrs. PRESTON and children expect to leave soon for Florida.

Dick FARLEY is home this week from Fort Knox, where he has been stationed for several months. He likes the army life, and is ready for any service his country thinks he can perform.

Miss Josephine STEELE, Bible teacher in Tazewell High School, is a patient in a Bluefield hospital. Miss STEELE will undergo treatment for several days.

Mrs. Richard KELLY, who has recently undergone an operation in the Bluefield sanitarium, has returned to her home here. She is making rapid improvement.

J.E. PATRICK, of Bluefield, Virginia, was a Tazewell visitor Wednesday. Mr. PATRICK has three sons serving with the forces of Uncle Sam, one boy is in Texas, one in Honolulu and the other in the Canal Zone. Another will leave shortly for one of the camps.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin HARMAN and son, Peter, of North Tazewell left last weekend to join Mr. HARMAN's parents, Mr. and Mrs. K.D.R. HARMAN, who have been spending the winter in Florida.

Miss Mary Alice MCCONNELL was in South Boston the past weekend where she attended the wedding of her former school mate, Miss Mildred CHANDLER to Mr. Wallace PAINTER, of Semora, North Carolina. Miss MCCONNELL was maid of honor.

Mrs. R.W. SHERMANTINE, and Mrs. Garnet VAUGHT returned on Thursday morning to their home in Sparks, Md., after visiting Mrs. W.E. PEERY of Tazewell; Mr. and Mrs. W.W. PEERY, Mrs. Mary PEERY and Mr. and Mrs. Sidney PEERY, of North Tazewell.

GRATTON

Our pastor and wife, Rev. and Mrs. RICHARDSON, have moved in the new parsonage. We are very proud of our new parsonage.

Mr. BROOKMAN'S new home is almost complete and it is a lovely home. They expect to occupy it on the first of March.

Mrs. Balton BURTON has been ill with flu for several days but is improving.

Charles HAGER, who has a position in the Radford plant, spent the weekend at his home here.

Alvis CHRISTIAN has accepted a position in the Radford plant.

The little 5 months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus BOURNE is very ill at the home of Mrs. BOURNE'S father, C.E. BURTON, here.

Luther BAUGH has recovered from a recent illness.

Miss Rosa BURTON has been ill for a month with flu, but is better at this writing.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvis CHRISTIAN have moved from W.B. YOST'S to Gratton in the John BOURNE house at the forks in the road. We are sorry to give up good neighbors like these.

Missionary Society of the Christian Church, met Wednesday of last week with Mrs. Elmor MCGEE and Miss Jamie RINGSTAFF, the district secretary; Mrs. Sho GILLESPIE and Rev. Curtis JONES were present.

Miss Hazel HILT, teacher here, was in Tazewell Saturday.

Miss Marie HILT, stenographer at the quarry, was in Bluefield on Saturday.

Charlie LAMBERT and Miss Gretchen QUESENBERRY were married in Tazewell Saturday. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess LAMBERT. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George QUESENBERRY.

Jenny CRAIG is at home recuperating from a recent illness. His mother, Mrs. R.A. CRAIG spent about 3 weeks with him in Washington, D.C. He had pneumonia. 

Ralph CHILDRESS is home from camp on furlough.

A large crowd was present here Friday night at the annual C.E. banquet. Rev. DUNN preached and Rev. Curtis JONES gave the address. 

Mrs. W.B. STEELE returned home Tuesday after almost 7 weeks visit with her daughter, Mrs. John B. GILLESPIE and family at Cedar Bluff.
