James W. BANE, 82 years of age, died Friday morning at his
home at White Gate, Va. He was a well known farmer of Giles County where he had
been a life long resident. Mr. BANE is survived by his wife, who before
marriage was Miss Bessie DAVIDSON, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
James W. DAVIDSON, of Tazewell and a sister to the late Miss Julia DAVIDSON,
for many years a teacher in Tazewell High School. Besides his wife there
survives the following children: James E. BANE, of Red Wing, Minn.; John
D. BANE, of White Gate; Eugene M. BANE, of Grundy; William D. BANE,
of White Gate; Miss Mary H. BANE, a teacher in Tazewell graded school.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the home and burial was in
the family cemetery.
Marvin Luther GILLESPIE, aged 60, grocer and filling station operator on
the Princeton-Oakvale road, died Monday morning, following an illness of one
week, due to acute indigestion. The body was brought to Gratton Wednesday and
services were held at Mt. Loivet church at two o'clock Wednesday. He is survived
by his widow, who before marriage was Miss Maude ELLISON of Tazewell, and
two daughters.
Raleigh E. WHITT, 74, died at the home of his son, Billy WHITT, at
Raven; Saturday morning. Mr. WHITT was born in Tazewell county and
engaged in farming for 35 years, later moving to Honaker, at which place he made
his home for 33 years. There survives three daughters, one son; nine
grandchildren, and a half brother. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon
from the home of his son at Raven and burial was near Drill, Russell County.
